The purpose of the Women's Studies Minor is to provide students with an understanding of how gender, particularly in terms of women, is constructed and employed in educational, historical, aesthetic, sociological, and political contexts. The intention is to equip students with the knowledge and analytical abilities needed to recognize and transform gender inequality in their own lives and in the world at large.
Program Competencies
The purpose of the program is:
- To inform students of the diversity of women's contributions across academic disciplines in a multicultural and global society.
- To increase students' knowledge of the varied contributions of women throughout history.
- To challenge students to use a variety of critical thinking and problem solving skills to recognize and contend with gender inequality at the individual and social level.
- To expand students' knowledge, skills, and consciousness regarding their choices in families, politics, work, and leisure.
